Monitor

Fair Politics EU examines to what extent the European Parliament is aware of the importance of Policy Coherence for Development and in what way they commit themselves to fair politics. By monitoring parliamentary questions, amendments, and reports, the Members of the European Parliament (MEP's) are scrutinised for their efforts to achieve fair politics.

Each time an MEP engages in a positive action related to one of our cases, a news item will be published on this website. The action will be considered as 'fair' and our monitor will keep up the score of all political groups, to show which political groups in the European Parliament are most active in advocating fair politics.

The Fair Politician of the parliamentary year

The current group of members of the European Parliament have been elected in June 2009, for the period of 2009 - 2014.  The points granted so far, are thus earned in the 09/10 parliamentary year. In June 2010, the scoreboard will be checked and the Fair Politician of the year will be awarded during a ceremony in the European Parliament. By clicking on the different political groups on the green scoreboard to the left, you can find the newsitems about the MEPs who earned a Fair Politics point.

The monitoring scoreboard and earning points

There are several ways for MEPs to earn a point on our scoreboard.

  • Parliamentary questions (either oral or written) are granted one point.
  • Amendments contributing to making a particular report on a policy more coherent are granted one point.
  • Questions that are raised during the EU- ACP Joint Parliamentary Assembly are also granted one point.
  • The rapporteur, responsible for drafting a report which in itself contributes positively to enhancing PCD in general or to one of the case studies in particular are granted two points in the monitoring scoreboard.
