Fair Politics

Political decisions of the European Union and its Member States too often harm the interests of developing countries. Trade, agricultural and migration policies, among others, undermine the efforts of development policies and efforts for global sustainability. Fair Politics wants to change this to offer developing countries their rightful opportunity to develop.

The objective of the Fair Politics political campaign is to make politicians aware of unfair policies, to provide them with policy recommendations and to encourage them to revise these policies. Fair policies are coherent, justifiable and sustainable policies that do not hinder, but encourage the development of poor countries. All with the aim of giving poor countries a fair chance to develop.

Fair Politics presents examples of unfair policies and brings them to the attention of politicians and civil servants. In order to do so, Fair Politics uses political as well as legal declarations to remind the politicians of their commitments and concrete case studies to show the unfairness and incoherence of the policy concerned.

Policy Coherence for Development

The European Union is legally obligated to take account of the objectives of development cooperation in the policies that it implements, which are likely to affect developing countries. (Art 10A/21 and 188D/208 of the Lisbon Treaty). For more information on Policy Coherence, please click on "coherence" in the blue menu bar.

The Fair Politician of the Year

Fair Politics at different levels

The Fair Politics political campaign focuses on different levels of governance; The European institutions, the national governments in the different Member States and the local political level in the Netherlands. Fair Politics calls upon partners in the European Union and in developing countries to work together to develop case studies and advocate for policy changes. Combined efforts make stronger cases!
